The Wheel of Time, Painted in the Living Tradition of Kathmandu

The Kalachakra (Wheel of Time) Mandala is one of the most sacred and cosmologically complex mandalas in all of Vajrayana Buddhism, said to have been taught by the Buddha himself to the King of Shambhala. This exceptional thangka presents the Kalachakra in its full glory, centered on the distinctive eight-pointed geometric star mandala with the wrathful blue Kalachakra deity at its very heart. The concentric rings of deities, gate guardians, and offering figures radiate outward with extraordinary precision and luminous color.

The surrounding landscape is rich with Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, wrathful protectors, and narrative scenes set against a deep blue sky filled with golden clouds. The rich red border with a pink and floral decorative inner band frames the entire composition with warmth and elegance.

This is a piece of exceptional iconographic significance, one of the most sought-after subjects in Himalayan sacred art collecting.
